Gallery - Whitchurch Fire Fighters Visit Whizzkids Pre-School Playgroup
The children at Whitchurch Whizzkids Pre-School Playgroup were really excited on Friday
1st February 2008 when Whitchurch Fire fighters visited the pre-school in their Fire Engine.
The children had been concentrating on learning their colours by means of a half term topic
on colours, the children were participating in a ”red week” and Playleader had arranged
this extremely fun visit by using the local amenity of the village fire station to teach the children
not just about the colour red but also to learn a very important safety message. Fire fighter Mark Andrews,
who has a child at the Pre-School spoke to the children firstly about smoke alarms and the necessity
in having them fitted in the home, the children then role played a scenario with children pretending
to be a mum and a child and what to do when the smoke alarm goes off.
Playleader Tracy and Assistant Michelle where then dressed up in Fire fighter uniforms before taking
the children outside to experience the Fire engine, Halee jumped in the drivers seat whilst other
children jumped in the back to view the equipment, walkie talkies were used to speak to Michelle across
the car park. The flashing blue lights were put on and the hoses unrolled, each child was then able
to have a go with the hose aiming it at a cone, this was extremely enjoyable with the children laughing
excitedly.
Each child received a bag of goodies which included a story about playing with matches stickers, pencil
and some safety information for their parents.
